THE CONCEPT FOR THE NIPRD CONTEXTUAL PROCESSING PROTOCOL (CPP) PROJECT

NIPRD is a center of Excellence in Research and Development of phytomedicine, Pharmaceutical and Biological product, drugs and diagnostics towards improving the health and well being of mankind.

The contextual processing protocol (CPP) project developed by the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) is aimed at harnessing the identified Natural Resources with phytomedicinal, components for processing to Finished Health Care Products for local Consumption and export.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT: 

The major objectives of the project is:

To improve access to health care and well being as well as promote local consumption of indigenous natural products.

To enhance regional research and development capacity for the development of indigenous therapies such as herbal remedies and intervention for conditions prevalent for Nigeria and Africa.

To lessen the current dependent on external factors for medicines and related health care products especially for those that can be sourced from natural resources in the country.

To contribute to the relevant knowledge transfer associated with the introduction of new technology 

To stimulate interest, investment and partnership into local farmers manufacturing from investors, partners and high net worth private sectors players both within and outside the country.

To encourage development for the associated allied industries within the region such as Herbal Medicines, Pharma Excipients, other relevant raw materials and finished products that can be sourced from natural resources.

To provide a model that will facilitate collaboration and corporation amongst Development Partners, Government Agencies as well as private Sector Stakeholders.

To expedite job creation and generate employment opportunities

To systematically boost economic activities for citizen and residents in the North West Region.

ASSUMPTION OF DUTY AT THE NORTH WEST ZONAL OFFICE KATSINA STATE: 

Following the approval by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation in March 2021for the establishment of NIPRD zonal offices situated in Katsina State.

The NIPRD North West Zonal Office commenced it’s operation on the 10th July, 2023. Following the assumption of duty of the posted officers headed by Mr. Linus Effiong, Danison, a Seasoned Administrator. The NIPRD team was received on arrival by the Ag. Executive Secretary State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency Katsina. Pharm. Badamasi Sani. The premises of the temporary office allocation was approved by the Katsina State Ministry of Health.

Thereafter, the Head NIPRD North West Zonal Office informed the DMSA officials of NIPRD collaboration with Katsina state Government on the establishment in Katsina state of the North West Zonal Office for the actualization of the NIPRD core Mandate, the Contextual Processing Protocol (CPP) project aimed at harnessing identified natural resources with phytomedicinal component for processing of finished healthcare products for commercialization locally and for exports, to enhance economic benefits to the government and people of the North West region.

In accordance with the concept of the agreement reached between NIPRD and the Katsina State Government to enhance the success of the establishment of the Contextual Processing Protocol (CPP) project, a meeting who held on the 6th December, 2019 between Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari former Executive Governor, Members of the State Executive Council Katsina state and the Director General/CEO NIPRD DR. Obi Peter Adigwe. During the said meeting, both parties agreed for the actualization of the project where pledges was made by the State Government , for the provision of 5000 Hectares of land for medicinal plants cultivation, Office Accommodation-3 bedroom bungalow, and temporary Human Resource support in favour towards the implementation of the CPP project. Consequently, NIPRD is awaiting the approval and redeeming of the agreed request from the Executive Governor of Katsina state, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda based on a follow up that is ongoing to the mentioned effect between the Hon. Commissioner of Health Katsina State and the Head of Operations NIPRD North west Zonal Office towards the implementation of the NIPRD core mandate, the Contextual Processing Protocol (CPP) Project.

Plants are underway to visit other state government in the North West Zone i.e Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Zamfara. And other relevant stakeholders in the zone. 

NIPRD is known to contribute to national health coverage by linking traditional and herbal medicine with state of the art approaches to Pharmaceutical Research and development to produce new, affordable and accessible drugs to combat diseases that limit health productivity and development.

NIPRD is blessed with the availability of multidisciplinary research fellows capable of engaging in the activities of drug research and development (R&D). NIPED array of work force consist of Pharmacists, Chemists, Pharmacognosists, Formulation Technocrats, Pharmaceutical Scientists, Technologists, Parasitogists, Statisticians, Microbiologists, Clinicians, Administrators and Sociologists. e.t.c.

The majority of our researchers are holders of Ph.Ds and published regularly in peer reviewed scientific journals.
